LINC-ED - Bayfield's new reporting system

31 May 2019

Dear Parents

We are delighted to be able to launch our new reporting system, LINC-ED. The staff have been setting up each student’s page on the LINC-ED site and we are excited to share this with you and involve you in your child’s learning journey. Below you will find an outline of what to expect and some instructions about how to access your child’s learning page.
Our aim has been to implement a robust system that allows teachers, parents, and students to access learning in an online environment that is secure, easy, and effective.
LINC-ED allows teachers to share learning anytime, anywhere and this can be viewed on any device. We are excited about the potential that the software offers. The report is designed to build year on year so that over time you will have access to comments, assessments, images, video and helpful resources all in one place.

SO, what will you see?
At this stage each student has been assigned learning goals for reading, writing and maths. As the term progresses teachers will post evidence and comments in relation to your child’s goals and assign new goals when necessary.

Year 4-6 - Totara, Rimu & Puriri (Kauri)
By the end of Term 2 teachers of year 4-6 students will also have written a mid-year general comment. General comments will look much like they did with our old system and will encompass comments based on our New Zealand Curriculum, Key Competencies, your child’s work ethic, friendships, collaboration etc.  Overall teacher judgments about whether your child is on track to meet the expected curriculum level, at or below will also be made at the end of term 2. This process will repeat again at the end of Term 4 with end of year overall teacher judgments made against the expected curriculum levels.

Each term you will also see that teachers have added evidence of your child’s learning in reading, writing and maths. Evidence of your child’s learning is intended to be cumulative and ongoing.

Year 0-3 - Titoki, Kowhai, Pohutukawa
For year 0-3 students we will continue to make overall teacher judgments (OTJ) and general comments on their anniversary and half year anniversary months. For example: if your child started school in October they would be due to have their mid-year general comment and OTJ in April and their end of year comment and OTJ in October.

In addition to the general comment and OTJ teachers will continue to post comments and evidence in Reading, Writing and Maths each term.  Evidence of your child’s learning is intended to be cumulative and ongoing.

Your child will have wheels as shown above for reading, writing and maths.
These wheels show progress through a curriculum level. Each curriculum level typically spans two years (level 1: year 1-2; level 2 year 3-4; level 3 year 5-6).
·         green represents goals achieved
·         beige represents current goals
·         grey represents goals not yet in progress.
When teachers or students add comments and/or evidence to their learning pages you will receive notification via email.
